When doing an archer pull up, your body will move diagonally. This means that the weight on each arm/hand will vary depending on where you are in the pull up. The OAT makes you move vertically which ensures that you train the entire motion with constant weight, just like when you do a one arm pull up.
The Maxgrips are not required for the OAT; however, they bring crimps, slopers and jugs to the table.
If you want to train with more than just pinches, the Maxgrip or Maxgrip Hybrid is a great way to do it.
