Crimp strength is not about tools.
It’s about whether your setup allows controlled, repeatable load progression.
If that’s not possible, the tool is irrelevant.
The constraint
Strength improves when you can:
- apply a known load
- repeat it consistently
- increase it in small steps
That’s progression.
Not edge size.
Edge size is not progression
Going from 20mm to 15mm is not a clean overload.
It changes joint angles and recruitment.
It’s a different stimulus — not a measurable step forward.
Progression comes from load, not from smaller edges.
What your setup must do
A valid setup has three properties:
- a fixed edge
- measurable load
- repeatability
If one is missing, progression becomes guesswork.
The reality of available tools
Hangboards
A hangboard is only a surface.
It becomes a strength tool only if load is controlled externally:
- reduce load → pulley with known weight
- increase load → dip belt or loading system
Without that, it’s not a progression system.
Lifting-based setups
This is the clean solution.
You remove bodyweight and control load directly.
- any intensity is accessible
- load is measurable
- progression is precise
To do this, you need:
- a fixed edge → Lattice MXEdge Lift
- a loading system → Golden Grip Loading Pin
- small weight increments → fractional plates
That is the system.
Precision
At higher levels, the only thing that matters is how small your increments are.
- loading pin → controls load
- fractional plates → allow progression
- Tindeq Progressor → measures output
These don’t change the system.
They make it more precise.
The decision
You’re not choosing between products.
You’re choosing between systems:
- Hangboard system → must be modified (pulley / added weight)
- Load-based system → already precise
The difference between tools is small.
The difference between systems is not.
One tool vs many grips
Hangboards try to cover everything:
- edges
- slopers
- pockets
That reduces precision.
For strength, you don’t need variety.
You need control.
Bottom line
You need:
- a fixed edge
- a loading system
- adjustable weight
If your setup does not give you that, it will limit you.
Training
Once the setup is correct, use it properly:
- Max Hangs → maximal strength
- Repeaters → submaximal work
- Density Hangs → volume
