Limited by pulling repeatability

Your pulling strength doesn’t fail immediately.

You can pull through the move once. You can hold the position. But when similar pulling efforts come back again and again, your power starts to fade.

This is a pulling repeatability problem. You have enough pulling strength to do the move once, but not enough capacity to keep reproducing that force without a long rest.

Climbing more can help, but it often stays too random. On the wall, the angle, grip, body position and level of fatigue change constantly. To improve repeatability, you need repeated pulling efforts with controlled intensity, clean form and structured rest.

Below you’ll find the protocols and tools we recommend for this limiter.

Your protocols:

Pulling Repeatability Protocol

  • 4–6 controlled reps per set
  • 3–5 sets
  • 2–3 minutes rest between sets
  • 1–2 sessions per week

Starting load: choose a variation where the first reps feel solid, but the final reps are challenging without losing form.

Progression: increase the load by 2–5% in the next session only if your last 3 sessions were completed with clean form. Keep the same exercise, tempo and setup.

Stop immediately if: you feel sharp pain, sudden discomfort, elbow/shoulder irritation, or pain that increases from set to set.

Lock-Off Repeatability Protocol

  • 2–4 controlled lock-offs per side
  • 3–5 second holds
  • Train 2–3 arm angles: high lock-off, 90°, and slightly open arm
  • 10–20 seconds rest between reps
  • 3–4 sets
  • 2–3 minutes rest between sets
  • 1–2 sessions per week

Starting load: use assistance or bodyweight so every lock-off stays controlled. The final reps should feel hard, but your shoulder position and body tension should stay stable.

Progression: increase the load by 2–5% in the next session only if your last 3 sessions were completed with control at each angle. Keep the same angles, hold duration and setup.

Stop immediately if: you feel sharp pain, sudden discomfort, elbow/shoulder irritation, or pain that increases from set to set.

Choose your setup

For max finger strength, you need a fixed edge and a way to add load.

Gym rings + weight belt

Best if bodyweight pulling is already easy and you need added load.

Pegline / pegboard
Pegboard Pegline-Workshop 19/50-Max Climbing

Pegline / pegboard

Best for climbing-specific pulling repeatability. A pegline trains repeated pulls, lock-offs and transitions in one movement. It is less isolated than rings or a pull-up bar, but much closer to the way pulling strength is used on the wall.

Start with low volume and clean movement — pegboard work can be demanding on shoulders and elbows.
