Limited by finger strength repeatability on small edges

Your fingers don’t fail immediately.

You can hold the edge. You can do the move. But when the same kind of effort comes back again and again, your fingers start to fade.

This is not a pure max strength problem. You have enough force to do the move once — but not enough capacity to repeat it without a long rest.

That makes this a repeatability problem.

Climbing more can help, but it often stays too random. The load changes every move, every angle, every session. To improve repeatability, you need repeated efforts on a fixed edge, with controlled rest and consistent intensity.

Below you’ll find the protocol and tools we recommend for this limiter.

Your protocol:

Use Repeaters if you can do the individual crimp moves, but fail when you have to link several of them in a row.

Use Density Hangs if you start losing control on small holds later in the route, even when none of the moves feel impossible on their own.
(find the full protocols here: Repeaters, Density)

Repeaters Protocol

  • 3–5 sets
  • 6 reps per set
  • 7 seconds on / 3 seconds off
  • 2–3 minutes rest between sets
  • 1–2 sessions per week

Starting load: choose an edge and load that feel hard, but still allow you to complete all reps with control. The final reps should be difficult, not messy.

Progression: increase the load by 2–5% in the next session only if your last 3 sessions were completed with stable grip position and consistent timing. Keep the same edge, grip and setup.

Stop immediately if: you feel sharp pain, sudden discomfort, finger tweakiness, or pain that increases from set to set.

Density Hangs Protocol

  • 2–4 sets
  • 20–40 second hangs
  • 2–3 minutes rest between sets
  • 1–2 sessions per week

Starting load: use a lower intensity than max hangs. Choose an edge and load you can hold for the full duration with clean control and without fighting failure.

Progression: increase the load by 2–5% in the next session only if your last 3 sessions were completed with stable grip position and consistent control. Keep the same edge, grip and setup.

Stop immediately if: you feel sharp pain, sudden discomfort, finger tweakiness, or pain that increases from set to set.

Choose your setup

For finger strength repeatability, you need a fixed edge and a way to add load.

Portable edge + loading pin
Lift Beginner Pack - Finger Strength

Portable edge + loading pin

Best if you want a precise, compact setup for testing and structured strength work.

This setup scales with you. Add fractional plates when you need finer load control, or a Tindeq Progressor to turn every session into trackable data.

Hangboard + weight belt

Best if you want a permanent home setup with more grip options and room to expand.

Want to understand why this works?

  • Finger Strength Basics
Learn what finger strength actually is and why small edges expose it so clearly.
  • Intensity vs volume
Understand the difference between failing because you cannot hold a grip and failing because you cannot repeat it.
  • How Edge Size Changes the Stimulus
See why smaller edges are not just “harder”, but create a different training demand.
