Limited by repeatable sloper strength

Your hand doesn’t open immediately.
You can hold the sloper. You can do the move. But when similar open-hand positions keep coming back, your grip starts to fade.

This is a sloper repeatability problem. You have enough open-hand force to hold the position once, but not enough capacity to keep reproducing that force without a long rest.

Climbing more can help, but it often stays too random. On the wall, every sloper is different: angle, texture, wrist position, body tension and direction of pull all change constantly. To build repeatability, you need controlled exposure in a repeatable open-hand position, with consistent load and structured rest.

Below you’ll find the protocols and tools we recommend for this limiter.

Your protocol:

(find the full rolling handle protocol here)

(find the full hangboard protocol here)

Rolling Handle Density Holds Protocol

  • 10 second holds / 5 seconds rest
  • 4–5 reps per set
  • 3–4 sets
  • 2–3 minutes rest between sets
  • 1–2 sessions per week

Starting load: use a load that feels around 6–7/10 effort on the first set. You should complete every rep without the handle slipping, rotating out of position, or forcing your wrist to compensate.

Progression: increase the load by 2–5% in the next session only if your last 3 sessions were completed with clean open-hand tension and stable grip quality. Keep the same handle, grip position and setup.

Stop immediately if: you feel sharp pain, sudden discomfort, wrist/elbow irritation, or pain that increases from set to set.

Hangboard Repeaters Protocol

  • Use an 18–25 mm edge
  • Half crimp by default, or open hand if that matches your weakness
  • 7 second hangs / 3 seconds rest
  • 6 reps per set
  • 3–5 sets
  • 2–3 minutes rest between sets
  • 1–2 sessions per week

Starting load: choose an edge and load where the last reps feel hard, but still controlled. Your grip position should stay stable through the full set.

Progression: increase the load by 2–5% in the next session only if your last 3 sessions were completed with clean grip position. Keep the same edge, grip and setup.

Stop immediately if: you feel sharp pain, sudden discomfort, finger/wrist/elbow irritation, or pain that increases from set to set.

Choose your setup

For max sloper strength, you need a repeatable open-hand position and a way to add load progressively.

Rolling handle + loading pin (recommended)

Rolling handle + loading pin (recommended)

Best if you want a precise, compact setup for testing and structured strength work.

This setup scales with you. Add fractional plates when you need finer load control, or a Tindeq Progressor to turn every session into trackable data.

Hangboard + weight belt

A viable option if you want a permanent home setup with more grip variety and room to expand.

It is less precise than a rolling handle setup, but still useful if your hangboard has proper sloper holds and you keep the grip, angle and loading consistent.
